In this paper, my main point is for you to see God as an investor. In business, we know that an investor wants a return. In simple terms, you get back more than you put in. Often, it looks like materials plus labor equals a product of greater value. Labor plus materials could equal a house. The value of the labor plus all the materials might be $100k but the house might sell for $200k. The plan and design can really drive value. So let’s see what God, the Investor, has done. His plan is the Gospel that reconciles us back to God the Father.

But this plan is so much bigger than just one person. It involves the whole unified body of Christ becoming the bride of Christ, meaning everyone that He has chosen. We see this in the gospels when the servants are told to go invite everyone to the wedding on one condition: you must have wedding clothes (we are clothed in Christ’s righteousness).

Materials given:

Christ died for you

Payment for sin

Forgiveness of sin

Holy Spirit given = Investment made

You see, if God had stopped at dying for our sins, we would still be in a mess. He had to invest in us His spirit. Most of the time, we say, “I forgive you, but now get out of my life.” We write people off. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. This is a lie from the devil and not what God teaches. Forgiving people plus investing in them is complete forgiveness.

As Christians, we are instructed in the Lord’s Prayer to forgive those who offend or who have wronged us. Most of us don't realize that there are two more steps. First, we are commanded to forgive as we have been forgiven. The consequence of not forgiving, according to Matthew 6, is our heavenly Father will not forgive us. This might seem harsh, but forgiveness means a debt has been paid. Christ died for our sins and for all the sins of the people who would ever offend us. If we say, “I will not forgive,” then we are saying what Christ did on the cross was not enough payment for the sin committed against us. We are telling God that we want Him to do something more than what He has already done on the cross. What it means is His death was not enough to pay for this sin committed against me. If that doesn't slap you in the face, it should. It doesn't make it easy, but it’s the truth. Forgiveness, I think, is the hardest thing we will ever do in life. It requires a giant leap of faith of trusting God and releasing. Only God can truly judge and punish. Our sinful human nature wants a pound of flesh. We want the person to suffer as we have. The real truth is that, as we hold on to offenses, trying to punish our offender, we are punishing ourselves. There is also another principle going on here as our brain focuses on this person with great intensity. It doesn't understand good or bad; it just copies what it sees. This is why we see so many people who have been abused turn and become the abuser. We are commanded to love God with all our hearts. Christ tells us in John 13:34, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Later, Jesus tells us that even those of the world love those who love them. “But I say, love your enemies as I have loved you,” is what He is saying. In our human mind, this does not compute. But if you can see that this sinful person who offended you is someone Christ died for, you might understand their real value. What is the value of a man’s soul? The value of any object is determined by what someone will pay for it. Consider that a bottle of water at Sam’s is maybe worth 25 cents. But at a football game, it’s worth $3. If I were to take you to the desert, you might give me $100 for it, or more. So what changed? Did the contents change? No, but what the purchaser was willing to pay changed; this is why paper baseball cards sell for hundreds of dollars. People value them. God values you and every living soul on this planet with the value of His Son’s life. That means even your enemy’s soul is worth the life of Christ.

So let’s put our investor hat back on. So God, the Master Investor, tells us a story. The Kingdom of Heaven is like the master who called His servants and gave them five, two, and one talent(s). He went away for a long time and came back. The first servant said, “Here are the five plus five more that I made.” “Well done good and faithful servant.” Then the one who had been given two said, “Here are the two plus two more that I made.” “Well done good and faithful servant.” Then the servant who had one talent said, “Here is your one talent.” The Master said, “At the minimum, you could have at least put it in a bank and earned interest.” Now if you’re an investor, what would you do? The Bible says: “You wicked unfaithful servant. Take the one and give to the one who has 10.” Makes sense to me as an investor. Give to those who know how to invest and make more. The Bible says that whoever is faithful in the small things, more will be given. God has given you time, talent, and treasure. What are you doing with it? Is it according to His plan or yours? Most people have their own plans and spend all their time working on stuff that one day will all burn up, without considering the Master’s plan. This is serious business! God has made an investment in you, and He wants a return. Don’t miss it.

Now let’s put on the parent hat for a moment. You have some kids, mind you not by yourself and by no real doing of your mind and might. Now these kids who are just like you start failing and sinning. What do you do? Well, as a parent, we know that we forgive and invest (instruct or teach) every day. Our kids make mistakes; we forgive them, and we show them how to do it correctly. How many times do we do this? Well, as a parent, you know that it’s really a daily thing. The biggest thing we do as parents is to believe in our kids. We tell them they can do anything they set their mind to. We believe in them, and this helps them believe. My mother told me I could do anything that I set my mind to. At some point, I believed her. She did not let me fail. No matter what, we finished what I started. She helped me do it until I learned how to do it. When I left home, I left with a strong belief in myself. Why? Because she believed in me. This is the greatest investment we can make in anyone. Simply believe in people.

Now let’s put on the employer hat. We enter business to make a profit, and most of the time, we need others to help us. So we hire people to do a job. Then they fail us. Option 1 is to fire them, or Option 2 is to forgive and instruct them on how to do correctly. Quickly, I learned that this, too, became a daily thing. Forgive and instruct, but when I started believing in them, that was when business started getting fun. At our core, we want to be believed in more than anything. Being a part of a team that is doing something much greater than we could do by ourselves is so fulfilling—because God made us for this, to be a part of His family.

Our love for team sports shows us this. Accomplishing anything together is better than anything we will do by ourselves. Marriage and family that God created reflects this as well. Most teams are chosen based on skills and values, but families just happen. As a father of five kids and nine grandkids, surely, to me, it looks random. But it so amazes me that all the parts are needed. If I have learned anything in business, it is that I need all the parts, not just the people who think like me. I hire people who I know think different than me. It's so easy to write people off who don’t think like you. But over time, I have learned I need to know what I don’t know from people who are not like me. So my point here is: keep forgiving and investing in people, and let them invest in you.

True Story of Huey Coon:

Huey entered a 711 store, pointed a gun at the cashier, and said, “Give me the cash.” There was $131 dollars in the drawer. The cashier moved the wrong way, and Huey shot and killed the man. Later, he was caught and convicted and put on death row. After five years of thinking his time was up, the warden told him he had a court appearance. So Huey went to court to find the wife of the man he had killed in the court room. The judge addressed the woman and asked her if she had anything to say. She arose and pointed at Huey and said, “I want that man taken off death row.” Then she said, “I forgive you; now I want you to do something with your life.” She forgave him and invested in him. She gave the most important thing that we can do for anyone: that is to believe in them. It was heart felt, and, most importantly, it transferred to Huey. Huey had done nothing to earn this; she simply gave it to him as an act of faith. Huey went on to give his life to Christ, and now 41 years later, he has led more people to Christ in the Donaldson prison than anyone ever in this violent prison. Wow! What an example for us all to follow.

My sister was killed by a young man who was drinking and driving too fast on Altadena Rd. 50 years ago. My parents, though not Christians, said suing this man would not bring Lisa back. A few weeks later, I started reading the gospels and gave my life to Christ. I’m not sure how many people my life has impacted, but I know it's in the thousands. So what’s the point? We don’t get to choose what happens to us in life, but we do get to choose how we respond to it. I propose that we follow Christ’s example to forgive and invest.

I want to close this out by coming back to God, the master investor. When I look at the investment that God has made in me—the life of His Son and His Spirit living in me—it causes a holy fear in my heart. I hear in my heart: God wants a return, and that return looks like multiplication. I think it’s a 100-fold return. My mind goes to the seed. If the seed does not die and go into the ground, it remains by itself. If we will die to self and surrender to God’s Gospel plan, then we will see a 10-fold or even a 100-fold return. The biggest obstacle to God’s plan is unforgiveness in the bride of Christ. He ends the Lord’s prayer with, “And if you don’t forgive, your heavenly father will not forgive you.” This is all serious business, but I hope that you will become an investor and see the world through our Master’s eyes. Forgive quickly, and invest in people.

Here are some practical examples of investing. Start by praying for God’s goodness to come upon this person. Then ask God what you are to do. At times, prayer might be as far as it goes, but don’t miss the joy of seeing people drawn to our great Savior through you. Some of my best friends are people who have offended me and hurt me in many ways.

Surely marriage is a great picture of this. My wife, almost daily in some small way, offends me, and I’m sure I do her. But we keep investing in each other because that’s what a marriage does. We are in covenant with each other in the body of Christ. Have we forgotten that? The Bible talks about how we are to show preference to one another in the body of Christ. I think we have forgotten this truth. We have lost our faith in each other and gone to judging. Stop! I believe each person reading this paper has been called to engage the lost, release the offenses committed against them, and start speaking words of faith to those around them—words that give life, purpose, and, most importantly, forgiveness through the grace of God.

CHANGE OF PLANS?

We are grateful to be sharing our progress with you all. What went from being a trip planned for Chad, at the beginning of this year, to a trip to Liberia at the beginning of the summer, this update has been a LONG TIME coming, to say the very least.

Because of a series of complications seemingly due, in large part, to Covid, as well as changes in the country of Chad, we had to plan/replan, arrange/rearrange, schedule/reschedule, book and rebook, until finally, Bill touched down in Africa. All glory to God!

DISLOCATED BUT ALIGNED

Although this trip seemed to be accomplished following one setback after another, we know that God is in control and while the things we face in life may be changes to OUR plans, God always know what HIS plan is to be. So, here we are!

June 11th was steadily approaching and everything was finally coming together for the trip; the tickets were booked, presentations were being finalized, Covid tests were scheduled... all systems were go! There was, however, another complication to come that was not in our plans. About a week before takeoff, Bill dislocated his shoulder. Because of everything it took to get to this point, cancelling and rebooking just wasn't an option. Onward!

Everything else is just you creating your own religion where you are god and people bow down and serve you ."

ALIGNMENT

Bill arrived in Monrovia, Liberia as scheduled and met up with Efi Tembon with Oasis Network. During this trip, Business Workshops were to be held over the course of several days, where Bill would give presentations on the topic of "Alignment". Kind of ironic, really.

Several updates were given in the form of texts and emails. In addition to shoulder pain, there were other health issues that arose. Bill ended up coming down with a cold, waking up one morning unable to talk but continued steadfast in prayer and coffee. He was able to push through and speak at the workshops where they saw "incredible hunger for Christ in the area!"

In addition to the workshops and meetings, there were other opportunities for ministry that again, were according to God's plans but not necessarily our own.

Because of the pain, he needed to go to the Dr.'s Office. During the 2+hour wait time, they built relationships with some of those that were also there waiting to be seen and four people ended up receiving Christ. Right after everyone prayed, the Doctor arrived. Glory to God!

BILL'S SECRET TO SUCCESS:

"This morning I listened to the song, You Make Me Brave. I just wept in tears realizing that I would have stayed home but God made me brave to go on this trip. Many have partnered and prayed for me to make this possible. I have seen many come to Christ and I have just been a vessel for God to use. To God be the glory!

I can’t stop crying this morning. The Spirit has touched my heart. My dependence on Him has grown. [Yesterday I was asked,] "'What was the secret to my success?'

My answer first was, 'Be careful how you define success.'"

i count success in my life by asking the following questions:

" 1. Are the people around me growing in Christ?

2. Are they providing for their families?

3. Do I lift up others?

4. When I meet someone new, I ask 'Where are they in their relationship with Christ? and 'How do I help them grow?'

This is the secret sauce: Be others focused and not upon your self.

As a result I have mountains of blessings flowing back to me. You will reap what you sow. Bless others and it will come back on to you. Phil 4:19 God's grace will meet your needs, not your own efforts. Give your life away. Don't try to get more. Give your time and bless others. Take the blame. Be responsible for others. This is what Christ has done for us and we are to do the same."

"1. Do the hard things first .

2. Step into what seems impossible. It's there you find God and His will.

3. Don't Seek a life of comfort. It will leave you empty and unfulfilled.

I have met friends for life in the hard things of life. Those that joined me truly these are my brothers and sisters.

One day in heaven we will understand some of the why's. But for now we walk By faith knowing that He chooses to lead us thru trails that teach us most about His son and the relationship he wants us to have with Him.

Summed up; Success is a growing dependence upon Christ where you are surrendered to Him and allow him to use you to bless others even in your weakness and when you don't want to."

A BEAUTIFUL TIME

A Message from bill

"I don’t know how to express my love for all you that have prayed for me and supported me on this trip. I have seen God bring hundreds of people to himself before but never have I been in this much pain. The pain let me understand how much God loves all the people of this earth.

Your prayers opened doors, stopped the devil in his tracks, reduced and eliminated my pain. While I was teaching, it was like floating on a cloud and reaching into the hearts of people. I have never had so much prophecy come out of my mouth at the same time. It’s one thing to pray for one person but when it becomes 30 at one time, back to back, and it’s all different. I even told one woman to stop eating the junk she was eating. [It’s] hard to remember everything but one thing for sure, it wasn’t me. It was each of you crying out to God and speaking through me. Really, I can’t explain it but your prayers came through into my mouth.

One night, all alone, I was in such pain that I could hardly bare it. I just begged God for relief. Then, He woke one of you up at three in the morning and you prayed and texted me. The pain stopped. I have learned more about the body of Christ on this trip than ever. With tears in my eyes, y ’all have been with me every step and are carrying me home. Every day when y ’all started waking up praying, it was nothing short of getting some steroid shot.

When we get to heaven, you will get to meet the people that you helped birth here in Liberia.

Just in case you’re thinking you could never do this, I would [have said] the same thing. But when God opens the door, what are you supposed to do? WALK THROUGH IT! And most of all, let the body of Christ know it.

We are shrinking back from doing God’s will because of fear and we are keeping our mouths shut. Speak what He shows and tells you. I promise the Holy Spirit will bring the right ones around you to help. Also, it won’t be your timing, but His."

"We completed our workshop yesterday. We were expecting 50 people. But 85 attended and completed Level One Bible Listening Group Facilitator Training. We hope to be back for Level One and Level Two. We plan to develop a team of trainers here." -Efi Tembon, Oasis Network

The following day, they headed to the Kaba area for work with the community for a couple of days. "The Kabas have invited Kaba leaders from across the country, local chiefs and government administrators to their community meeting to discuss Bible translation."

BECAUSE OF YOUR PARTNERSHIP...

We can't thank you enough for your continued partnership. With your help, we have had the privilege of sharing the gospel and engaging with our new friends in Chad and Cameroon, Africa! Because of your partnership, we have been able to make tremendous strides in scripture translation and to see hundreds of people from previously unreached, unengaged people groups commit their lives to Christ. We've been able to help facilitate individual growth and kingdom expansion through Bible listening groups, church planting, and discipleship training!

KICKOFF 2020

We kicked off 2020 strong with a small prayer gathering at the, newly purchased, E3 Embassy. Bill put out the invitation to pray over the building - that it would be filled and used as a space for ministry and business to come together in the same place to collaborate for the glory of God.

As of January 1st, 2020, Omega Tech Property was open for business at 105 Vulcan Road. We want this building to become a sustainable giving engine with 100% of the profits going toward reaching UUPGs in Chad, Cameroon, and beyond!

HEART-LANGUAGE

Our main goal and purpose, especially for this building, is to get the gospel to the unreached, unengaged in their language. This major undertaking is grand, but not impossible. Through your partnership, we can move the scale! To date, we have been able to complete and record translations of 50 Unfolding Bible Stories for the Jina and Majera people groups.

"[Initially, there was] not a single known Christian in either group. They are a predominantly Muslim group and are known to be hostile to Christianity. [Efi and his team] met with four leaders - two from each community. Evangelist Bara Prosper who hails from the neighboring Musgum tribe has spent 10 years in the Jina community reaching Musgum people in Jina and trying to reach the local Jina people. In the last ten years, he had not seen a single Jina tribe's person come to Christ. He said that the biggest mistake he made was to neglect the language factor. For the Jina and Majera people, as well as every people group, to understand the gospel, it needs to be in the language that speaks to their hearts."

TOUCHDOWN IN AFRICA

At the beginning of 2020, Bill Slappey had the amazing opportunity to partner with Efi Tembon (Oasis Network) and travel to Chad, Africa. He gave a presentation for a business leadership workshop to “Mobilize Business Leaders for Bible Translation and Scripture Impact in the Sahel”. If you have not had a chance yet, check out this video that Efi put together to see some of the highlights from that trip!

During this two-day workshop, Bill taught attendees how to acknowledge Christ in their business and taught them Matthew 6:33. This teaching was important to them because, for the people in this area, survival is so difficult.

Bill also taught from Philippians 2:3, "but in humility, consider others as more important than yourselves," which is "contrary to just trying to survive, but giving and sharing with others... the only way you can do that is through faith."

This scripture was impactful and encouraging because they expressed that they "didn't know [they] could go to God's word for [their] business problems."

At the end of the workshop, the attendees gathered and asked if they could pray for Bill!

WATER WELLS

"Close to half of all people in developing countries are suffering at any given time from health problems caused by water and sanitation deficits. To address this problem, Designs For Hope seeks to provide individual water filtration and both shallow water and deep water wells. Clean water makes an immediate impact on the most vulnerable."

Thanks to funding from Brookwood Baptist Church and partnership with Oasis Network and Designs for Hope, we are in the process of getting water wells to the Jina/Majera tribes. Lord willing, we are hoping to have this project completed by the first quarter of 2021!

VISION 2033

"Vision 2033" via Faith Comes By Hearing, alongside the worldwide translation comm- unity is a goal and a movement dedicated to finishing the "task". "Christ's Great Commission can be completed in our generation."

"Our goal: To work in partnership to see that the Word of God is recorded and freely provided in every language that needs it by the year 2033."

OMEGA TECH PROPERTY MVPS

This year, Omega Tech Property hired two interns from Parker Highschool. Both Danielle and AJ play for the Parker High Football team. During their internship, they were introduced to all aspects of construction and blended great with the entire team. We look forward to having them next summer!

Brad has a heart for working with inner-city youths and feels blessed to have a company where ministry and marketplace intertwine. While working with the interns, Brad reached out to Liquid I.V., a company that produces a drink mix that is a non-GMO electrolyte hydration multiplier..

BOMWALI: 0-100

Significant impact has taken place with the Bomwali people group, alone. This was an area with 0 people having committed their lives to Christ. That number has since grown to over 100 Bomwali people! In addition, 10-12 churches have already been planted. This image was taken from a report we received from Doulos Partners. A great highlight from that report was that they noticed, "... they really want to know Jesus and live according to Him!"

SEW PROJECT

Big thank you to those who partnered with us to bless the women in N'Djemena, Chad with a microloan. The sewing shop was dedicated and is up and running. They received an order of 150 uniforms from a local school in N’Djamena.

"This has created opportunities to train the youth, provide some income, and also to spread the Word in the marketplace and in hard to reach places. [Oasis Network is] working on a plan to take a team there in January to teach sewing to many and also have a workshop on how to start a small group. [They] are also working on a church planting workshop with church planters in Chad and Northern Cameroon."

GOALS FOR 2021

Through prayerful partnership with a common goal, we can accomplish way more together than we ever could by ourselves! With still much to do, we have another big year ahead of us in 2021. Let's greet this next year, prayerfully and with enthusiasm, knowing that with souls as our focus, God is with us!

In this next year, we have another 20k that we want to do in Micro Business Loans, we want to continue our work in Bible translations and media, and lead more workshops that will empower leaders to advance God's Kingdom here on earth!
